The Emperor, as exquisitely portrayed in acrylics by Seattle artist William G. Powers, Jr., swings his Louis quinze accoutrement forward, as the royal nut sack slams into the Imperial mid-thigh, and advances into the thoroughly prepped Potemken crowd who cheer on command.
Alas they have no eyes to see his un-clothedness.
And Digby elegantly explains why we were deceived:
One of the things that the TNR article I excerpted above points out is that Rove couldn't have been too happy with the outcome in 2000. The Republicans had had to run in 2000 as "compassionate" conservatives to set themselves apart from what everyone knew to be the hideous face of Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh's GOP.But does not explain why Messrs. Limbaugh and Gingrich remain so seductive.
Hans Anderson seemed to say that the moral of the Emperor's New Clothes was to be skeptical.
Is it not just as likely that the moral was to keep your mouth shut and your skepticism to yourself?
Too many think so.
