And I Thought It Was Just Me

"Stupidity is unwitting self-destruction, the typical human ability to act against one's best interest, with death as the extreme consequence."
--Matthijs van Boxsel

According to Van Boxsel, animals have a built-in instinct for self-preservation, while humankind is the only species foolish enough to risk life for such issues as nation, race and religion. Every useless solution to life's problems only leads to new problems, ad infinitum. But it is a vicious cycle we seem incapable of escaping.
-- Marijke van der Meer, Radio Netherlands
It gets worse. What if intelligent people are stupid? What if that is the system?
Read, or listen (mp3 at link) and ponder.
